How to reconnect with your partner when everyday stressors become too much

You may forget to hug your partner or tell them that you love them when you are overwhelmed with emails waiting to be answered unread texts, and laundry piling up. When this continues for several days or weeks, you may find yourself feeling distant from your partner. How do I know? You and I both have experienced it.

These tips are simple, but they will make a big difference. These simple tips will help you make a big difference. If you implement one, three, or all of these tips throughout the day and week, I’m sure you’ll feel closer to your partner. So, without further ado, here are some ways you can reconnect with each other when daily stressors get in the way.

Send a loving text.

Nothing is better than receiving an unexpected and sweet text from your partner, especially when you are having a bad or stressful day. Let them know that you’re thinking of them. Say something like, “I hope your day is going well so far!” You can say something like, “I hope you’re having a great day so far!”

Take a long stroll.

Let your phone (and your responsibilities) go home, and take a walk outside to get some fresh air. This low-key activity lets you spend time with your partner without distractions. Take a deep breath, share your week, and laugh. I bet you’ll both feel less stressed at the end of the walk and your conversation.

Dinner together (and cook)

It’s too easy when life gets hectic to order takeout and eat it on the couch while watching TV. Then, you can go to bed. What’s the point? This week, instead of watching an episode of Ted Lasso on TV in the background, try to prepare a meal with your partner. Remember that it doesn’t matter if you make something fancy, romantic, or complicated. It matters only that you both enjoy cooking it. It will make dinner less of an obligation and more like a time to be spent together.

Plan your next date.

Weeks may go by before you have a Date. This can be due to the fact that life is too busy for you to remember. It’s okay and normal. You’re probably overdue for a date if you feel a bit disconnected from your partner. You may not have the time to go out this week, but you could plan one and schedule it. It will give both of you something to look forward to and may even bring back those butterflies of excitement in anticipation. You can pick an idea at random from a date jar to help you plan your next date.

Compliment them thoughtfully

How many times have your responsibilities, work, or frustrations distracted you from being with your partner? You’ve been so distracted by your anger during dinner that you didn’t notice the things you love about them. All of us have been there. You can tell your partner what you like about them by taking a moment to look them in the eye and saying it out loud. You can say something as simple as, “You are so cute,” “You listen well,” “I like your laugh,” or even “I appreciate that you do XYZ.”

Cuddle up

Cuddling is a simple thing, but it can fix anything, and I mean everything, according to me. Have you had a bad day today? Cuddle. Cuddle. Cuddle. Cuddle. Cuddle. Science proves it: The physical touch we receive while cuddling releases the “love hormone” oxytocin. Instead of lying on the couch or falling asleep beside each other, try cuddling so that you are with them. You won’t be able to stand up once you begin cuddling your partner. It can help you feel connected and comforted.

Get intimate

When cuddling turns into more, get the love going with your partner. Play some music and enjoy a sexy evening. Play games, try out a new position, or do whatever your heart desires. It’s especially important if you haven’t seen each other in a while. This can make you feel closer and bring back the spark that may have gone out when life became busy, and other things took priority. Plus, sex releases the same hormone as cuddling, oxytocin. This could help you feel closer to your partner and less stressed.
